EnviroScape Model

What is an Enviroscape? The EnviroScape® Nonpoint Source (NPS) model uses visual, hands-on activities to demonstrate the relationship between land use and water quality. This kit includes the base model Nonpoint Source Pollution. Add-on kits for groundwater and riparian demonstrations are included. Please contact Cass County Soil Conservation District to have this kit delivered to your classroom at a scheduled date.

The contents of the Enviroscape Model include the non-point source pollution setup and add-on kits for riparian and goundwater demonstrations.

With this setup, teachers will be able to demonstrate the effects of run-off from pet waste, spilled oil and fertilizer in an urban or rural setting.

The groundwater kit enables teachers to show how polluted water below ground level can affect above ground conditions.

The built in groundwater resevoir collects all run-off through a drain in the lake. This water is accessible through demonstration wells located through-out the landscape model. The process of roots taking up water can be demonstrated by using Q-Tips that absorb the ground water.

BMP (Best Management Practices) such as vegetative barrier strips, wetland areas, livestock management or riparian zones can be depicted using materials included in the kit. These include sticky-back felt strips, sponges, clay, fences and manure container, trees, animals and farm equipment.
