Abandoned Well-Sealing Program

Sealing a well for safety

The Cass County SCD recognizes the importance of ground water as a resource to both the urban and rural population.  We also recognize that contaminating these ground waters could result in devastating effect that would be difficult and costly to correct.

The Well-Sealing Program is available to anyone in Cass County who wishes to seal water wells that are abandoned.  The program will provide technical and financial assistance to properly seal abandoned wells.

Financial assistance will be provided at a rate of 75% of approved costs not to exceed $800.00 of the total cost to seal the well. 

If you are interested in this program, please call us at 701-282-2157 ext 3 or come into the office to pick up an application form packet. In the packet is an application form which needs to be filled out and left with us. The remainder is given to the contractor that will be sealing the well. There are specific guidelines to be followed in the sealing process for both the contractor and the land owner which are spelled out in the packet. And remember, for documentation, we need a picture of the well before and after the sealing process.
