Abandoned Well Sealing

well sealing
Sealing a well for safety

A well is a direct channel from the surface to the aquifer below. Sealing abandoned wills prevents aquifer contamination and life threatening accidents. The abandoned well can be plugged by the owner, however, for safety; it is strongly recommended that a licensed will driller perform that duty.

The well-sealing program is available to anyone in Cass County who wishes to seal water wells that are abandoned.  The program provides technical and financial assistance to properly seal abandoned wells.

Upon approval, financial assistance is provided at a rate of 75% of approved costs not to exceed $800.00 of the total cost to seal the well.

If you are interested in this program, contact us at 701.282.2157 extension 3 or come into the office to pick up an application packet. In the packet is an application which needs to be filled out and left with us. The remainder is given to the contractor that will be sealing the well. There are specific guidelines to be followed in the sealing process for both the contractor and the land owner which are clearly explained in the packet.

*NOTE: for documentation purposes, pictures of the well before and after the sealing process are required.

If you are interested in our well sealing program please contact us at 701.282.2157 extension 3 or by email.
