Trees for Hand Planting

Handplants available from the Cass County Soil Conservation District are conservation grade deciduous and coniferous seedlings available to residents of Cass County. These 18-36 inch bare root seedlings are dormant and need to be planted in the early spring. All conservation grade seedlings offered are from locally adapted seed or cuttings of known origin.

Handplants can be ordered through the Cass County Soil Conservation District anytime from June to April 1 st of the following year by filling out a handplant order form or by ordering online from our tree store. As time goes on, the availability of trees diminishes so the earlier you order, the better chance you have of receiving the species of tree you would like. Trees will be available to pick up in early spring; you will be notified of the pick-up times via postcard or email.

How to Order...

Our tree store is currently closed, please check back for 2011 ordering information.

In addition, the District also has Tubex® tree shelters available for sale. Tubex® provide maximum protection for seedlings against animal browse damage, wind, chemical sprays and equipment. In addition, they promote increased growth by imitating natural conditions under the shade of its parent where conditions are characterized by higher humidity and reduced air movement.

Pricing for Tubex®

2ft tree shelter: $2.50 per shelter
4ft. tree shelter: $5.00 per shelter
