Educational Resource Materials

The mission of the Cass County Soil Conservation District is to inform, educate, and provide leadership in conservation and stewardship of soil, water, and related natural resources. We offer educational resource materials, presentations, and workshops to residents, educators, agencies, and organizations. If you are interested in any of the materials listed below, please email our Urban Conservationist.

 

Stream Table
A fun, hands-on, educational tool to help students of all ages understand how river systems work. This table is designed to demonstrate how sediment, vegetation, and flowing water interact to form channels.

Enviroscape®
Demonstrates non point source pollution and the relationship between land and water quality. Add-on kits for groundwater and riparian demonstrations are also included.
Adapted for all grade levels

 

Composting and Mulching
Students learn about soil health, micro-organisms, recycling, native vegetation, and much more with this indoor, hands-on, project using a classroom sized worm bucket. Students learn how they can help worms turn trash to treasure!

Soil Crayons and Paints
Create crayons or acrylic medium paints out of multi-colored soils to adapt to various projects and topics such as soil conservation and identification.
Can be adapted for all grade levels

 


Soils Education Kit
This activity kit will help students identify various types of soils while educating on composition and conservation. This activity can be adapted for various activities and topics! Can also be tied in with presentation on natural resource careers.

The Incredible Journey Activity Presentation
Roll the water cycle and see where your drinking water today will be tomorrow with this fun dice tumbling station activity. Learn the states of water as it moves through the water cycle as well as
how all of the states work together to move water around the planet. *Part of the project WET Cirriculum. Grades K-5
